Full Description
Your adventure begins with a comfortable morning pickup from your hotel in Kandy or Dambulla. As we drive toward the mountains, the landscape transforms from busy towns to peaceful countryside dotted with small villages and terraced fields.
Our first stop is the impressive Bambarakiri Ella waterfall, where crystal-clear water cascades down moss-covered rocks. Feel the refreshing mist on your face as you take photos of this natural wonder. Next, we’ll visit the famous Riverston Viewpoint, where you can see mountains rolling away into the distance like giant green waves.
Arriving at Pitawala Pathana, we’ll begin our easy walk along a well-marked 0.75 km nature trail. This special grassland sits high on a gently sloping rock slab and feels like walking on nature’s own carpet. The short path leads to Mini World’s End, where the earth suddenly drops away into a deep valley. Stand safely at the edge and feel the thrill as you gaze across endless mountains, forests, and valleys spread out below you. This natural balcony offers some of Sri Lanka’s most spectacular views and perfect photo opportunities.
Pitawala Pathana is home to many plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. Your guide will point out colorful wildflowers, unusual insects, and maybe even rare birds that make this special place their home.
After exploring the grassland, we’ll stop for a delicious traditional Sri Lankan lunch served beside a clear mountain stream. Relax to the sound of running water as you enjoy fresh rice and curry made with local ingredients and authentic spices.
If time allows, we’ll visit the charming Wadda Peni Waterfall and stop at a local shop where you can sample sweet treats made from the kithul (fishtail palm) tree. Taste natural treacle (similar to maple syrup), rich jaggery (palm sugar), and even kithul chocolate, all made by local families using traditional methods passed down through generations.
As we drive back to Kandy or Dambulla in the late afternoon, keep your camera ready. If timing is right, you might capture the stunning sunset over Matale town, with golden light painting the countryside in warm hues.
