Day 1: Knuckles Five Peaks and Ash Cave
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kandy to Thangappuwa Village, a journey of just over an hour through the breathtaking landscapes of the Knuckles Mountain Range. Along the way, you can stop at a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast before starting the trek.
From Thangappuwa, the hike begins with an 8 km trek to the first of the Knuckles Five Peaks. You will then continue to the second peak, which is the highest summit among the Knuckles Five Peaks. Throughout the hike, you will be rewarded with panoramic mountain views, crystal clear streams, and the unspoiled beauty of this UNESCO-listed mountain range. A traditional village-style packed lunch will be served at a scenic location along the trail.
After exploring the Five Peaks, the journey continues with a 8 km hike to the historic Ash Cave. This remarkable cave is believed to have served as a refuge for ancient Sri Lankan kings during periods of foreign invasion. Upon arrival, set up your campsite and spend the evening surrounded by peaceful wilderness. As night falls, relax beneath a sky filled with stars and experience the true essence of camping in the Knuckles Mountain Range, where nature, history, and adventure come together.

Day 2: Kotaganga Waterfalls and Natural Pool
After breakfast and packing up the campsite, begin the second day with a hike to the spectacular Kotaganga waterfall chain. This 7 km trail leads you through the heart of the Knuckles Mountain Range to seven magnificent waterfalls, each offering its own unique beauty and unforgettable viewpoints.
The trek continues through the picturesque Kotaganga Estate before reaching the refreshing Natural Pool. Here, you can enjoy a relaxing swim in the crystal clear water after your adventurous hike.
A traditional village-style packed lunch will be served near the Natural Pool, giving you the opportunity to experience authentic Sri Lankan flavors in a peaceful natural setting.
After lunch, begin the scenic journey back to Kandy, bringing your unforgettable two-day Knuckles Mountain Range camping adventure to a close. This experience perfectly combines challenging trekking, stunning waterfalls, rich history, authentic local culture, and some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Sri Lanka.
