Full Descrption about Duwili Waterfall Chain Trek
Day 1: Trek to the Waterfall Cave
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kandy or Dambulla to Atanwala village, lasting about an hour. From Atanwala, the trekking adventure starts, covering 14 kilometers through the lush greenery of the Knuckles Mountain Range.
The trail leads you through Malkirigoda Gap to Walpolamulla, the smallest village in South Asia, isolated in the forest without proper roads. Along the way, visit the Dumbara waterfall, Kaludiya Pokuna waterfall, and a stunning natural infinity pool.
You’ll stop for a village-style parcelled lunch at a picturesque spot before continuing to the Waterfall Cave. The cave is an extraordinary location with views of mountains, forests, and waterways. As night falls, enjoy a unique camping experience with the soothing sound of the nearby waterfall, surrounded by natural beauty.

Day 2: Waterfalls and Return
After packing up the campsite and enjoying breakfast at the cave, the day’s hike resumes at 8.30 am. The return journey begins with a visit to the base of Duwili Ella, where the full power of the waterfall is best appreciated up close. From there, the trail continues to Sansun Falls, another spectacular cascade that rewards the short detour with memorable views.
The route then goes to the top of Ginikuru Waterfall before opening out onto two beautiful grass plains that are among the most scenic stretches in the entire Knuckles Mountain Range. The first is Ginikeliyawa Plains and the second is Aswedduma Plains, both offering wide, open views across the surrounding hills and a welcome change of pace after the forested sections of the trail.
From the plains, the trail descends alongside the Ranamure Oya, a clear and peaceful river that guides you through the final stretch of the hike to Ranamure Village. Here, a well-earned stop at the local village grocery shop gives you the chance to cool down with a cold drink and soak in the warmth and simplicity of rural Sri Lankan life. Just beyond the village, a fresh water stream running beside the paddy fields offers the perfect opportunity for a refreshing bath before the journey home.
The adventure concludes as you return to Kandy or Dambulla, carrying with you the memories of two extraordinary days in the untouched wilderness of the Knuckles Mountain Range. Dambulla is approximately two hours away, while Kandy is around three hours by road.

5Traveling with Lanka Trek was the best thing I did in Sri Lanka. We explored 8 hidden waterfalls and found a beautiful natural infinity pool. It felt like a secret paradise.
Camping beside a waterfall cave was a truly unforgettable experience. The forest was very green and completely untouched. It felt peaceful and refreshing for the soul.
Our guide, Manula was excellent. He was very supportive and made sure everything went smoothly. The food was another highlight. Everything was fresh and very delicious.
I especially loved the village-style rice and curry. It was the best meal I had in Sri Lanka.
If you want a real adventure away from crowded places, Lanka Trek is the perfect choice. I will always remember this amazing journey.
5We had a wonderful experience with Rajeev and Ashen as our guides! Sleeping in the only Cardamom hut remaining in the middle of the jungle and a few meters away from a magnificent waterfall was truly unforgettable. Doing it with those 2 was even better. We felt like we were doing the trek with 2 friends. We cannot recommend them enough! Thank you for everything!
5I joined Lanka Trek with two of my friends in July, and it turned out to be one of the best adventures we’ve ever had. The trails were breathtaking, filled with unforgettable views and moments. The guides were not only knowledgeable but also genuinely caring and friendly, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend their service for anyone who loves hiking.
